History of club

The Rotary Lublin- Centrum Club is the second club in Lublin formed in 1995.
The group of twenty seven founders filled an application for the registration to S¹d Wojewódzki in Lublin. On 21 September, 1995 Maria Sk³odowska- Curie Rotary Club, with the seat in Lublin, was registered to the Association Register in section A, position 1585. Stanis³aw Jab³onka became the first president of the Club.
The most significant event for our club happened on 19 April, 1996. On that day Maria Sk³odowska- Curie Rotary Lublin-Centrum Club became a member of the Rotary International. The celebration CHARTER DAY took place in Lublin on 24-25 May, 1996 and it gathered international quests and numerous deputations from Polish Rotary clubs. In years 1996-1997 the number of club members increased up to thirty seven people. In the following years the number of its members has been increasing gradually and now we have the club with a membership of fifty. New people have joined it but unfortunately some have left. So far the presidents of the Club have been:

From the very beginning, following the spirit of the Rotary organisation, we have been trying as much as our funds allow it, to help people in need. Our major far reaching task has been to organise and finance a music centre for the handicapped children, together with Henryk Wieniawski Music Association in Lublin. After the inauguration concert newspapers in Lublin wrote: “The splendid concert, performed by the children from the music centre, took place in the headquarters of Henryk Wieniawski Music Association in Lublin. The Rotary Lublin-Centrum Club which organised it, hoped that music and singing would allow the children to participate in life in which they meet far more barriers than children of the same age. It was the concert of emotions. The little artists gave their parents and guardians the simplest, yet the most beautiful, notes .” We are proud to announce that our enterprise, which was undertaken about ten years ago, is still prospering thanks to financial support and good-hearted people. The solemn concert of the children, who are members of the music centre, is one of the club celebrations that happens every year. We are still looking for some national and international clubs which would like to work with us on this enterprise. Taking part in the organisation of the International Contest for Young Violinists, which takes place every three years, is a regular activity in our club programme. Its earliest happening will be in Lublin in September, 2003.

Our second enterprise was the participation in organising the Polish- Ukrainian centre for marrow transplantation. Stanis³aw Jab³onka, the ex-president of the club, became a club assignee. The governors D2230 and Rotary club members from abroad got interested in our activities in this field. It is enough to say that thanks to MG and mainly our German clubs from D1900 we have been given sixty thousand euro so far.

Our regular cooperation with District 2230 and governors created one more time numerous posts such as district officers, members of Interstate Boards and district committees, etc. In the present 2003/2004 administration, the district officers have been: Albert Czajka, as a DICO, responsible for information and electronic media, Mieczys³aw Karczmarczuk, a YEO dealing with the youth exchange, Mirek Or³owski, the chief of the board dealing with short-term youth exchanges. Krzysztof Brogowski joined them in the 2003/2004 administration as a district officer responsible for expanding membership.

The duties which we are trying to carry out include weekly meetings of the members and their guests and cooperation with the Rotary clubs from our region, The Inner Wheel or The Rotaract. The attendance on our gatherings is about 75 per cent, we are not in arrears with membership fees for the district and RI, and we try to take part in all Rotary events in our country and abroad.
